The Ultimate Sailing Experience

LAGOS BLUEWATER REGATTA -  September 9 -12 2011

Finally there is a perfect alternative for the Caribean Regattas. Only a couple of travel hours away, the Lagos Bluewater Regatta offers the same sunshine, good winds, blue ocean, competition and fun

The previous 2 editions of the Lagos Bluewater Regatta were praised by all participant. Because of the excellent sailingconditions, the professional organisation, the socialising and high class entertainment. Even the 2 Dutch teams of semipro's claimed it has been better then the Heineken Regatta, and they will participate this year again.

The races around the cans are scheduled on 9 and 10 september, on the 11th an offshore race is planned. Although the fun is supposed to come first, on every edition some experienced crews and well equiped racing yachts meet at the starting line. So it's up to every crew to decide in which gear they want to race.

Last year's edition had 28 participants, this year 40 yachts are expected.

The event is organized by the Marina de Lagos, the Clube de Vela de Lagos and Bluewater Algarve.
During their 15 years presence in the western Algarve Bluewater has become the leading maintenance company for both sailing and motorvessels. It's owner/director, Paul Mallet, himself a keen racer, is the original initiator of the event.

The western Algarve can be considered  as the most beautiful sailing area of Europe. Lots of sunshine but not too hot, a beautiful coastline and during the summermonths a constant windpattern, with a moderate Westerly in the morning, becoming a force 4/5 from the Northwest during the afternoon. Because of these winddirections the ocean remains flat, no swell, hardly any chop.

This is why Volvo 70 ABN/Amro team, the Dutch Olympic Sailing Team and now the British Olympic match racers  have established their training camps overhere. And is why World Cup Matchracing and the TP 52's are passing by.
The port of Lagos is adjacent to the cozy, old center of town. The facilities are excellent, along the harbor is a nice promenade with restaurants and the beautiful beach Meia Grande is within walking distance. At the harbor is the five star Marina Hotel.
Lagos is 65 km away from Faro, the nearest airport.

Of course we sail our own J/120 and have the following cruiser/racers available: 2 x Dehler 39SQ, grand soleil 40 and a First 40.7. They all are equiped with spinnaker / gennaker, have the necessary licenses and insurance. . Each ship has a capacity of up to 8 guests.
